From February 2010 seventeen municipalities in the region of Murcia will be included in the free bicycle scheme that has already been launched in Cartagena. This will mean that it will be possible to discover many of the enchantments of the area on board a bike. At the moment there are 800 bicycles available for use, free of charge, in Cartagena, San Pedro del Pinatar, Ceuti, Los Alcázares, Alhama, San Javier, Totana, Mula, Ricote, La Manga and around the University of Murcia. The free to use bicycle scheme has proved extremely successful in Cartagena with many tourists opting for this method of transportation to discover the historical city. Before the end of February 2010 free bicycles will also be available in Puerto Lumbreras, Blanca, Villanueva, Ojas, Ulea and in two separate places in La Manga. Over two and a half million euro has been spent in purchasing the bicycles and creating the scheme.
